about

I am drawn to man-made landscapes, to structures and places that impose themselves. I examine the way they divide space and how light creates unique forms within them.

Throughout my artistic practice architecture has informed and influenced my approach.

My process starts by taking photos at the moment when light and shadow emphasise the shapes of the subject. While painting I try to boil these images down, to get to the essential elements.

I take functional constructions and celebrate their forms rather than their purpose. This means removing signs of life (such as people and cars) and instead letting the structures dominate.

By focussing on landscapes of the everyday my appreciation of these places grows and each time I find new details, new shapes and shadows that inspire me.
